Modern Home Roofing & Chimney is a licensed New Jersey home improvement contractor (NJ HIC 13VH13268400). We repair and replace roofs, chimneys, gutters and siding on houses in 14 counties, from Sussex and Warren down to Ocean and Monmouth. Every estimate starts with a free inspection, photos of what we find, and a written price.
Roofing
Roof problems usually show up inside first. A stain on the ceiling, shingles in the yard, ice along the gutter line in February. Some roofs need a repair and have years left. Some have been patched too many times. We tell you which one yours is after we have been up there.

Chimney
A chimney can leak in more places than people expect. Water gets in through cracked mortar, a broken crown, or failed flashing where it meets the roof, and it shows up on the ceiling or in the fireplace. We look at the whole stack, from the top down to the roofline, before we tell you what it needs.

Gutters
Gutters have one job, which is moving water off the roof and away from the house. When they sag or clog, the water pours down right next to the foundation and rots the boards the gutters hang on.

Siding
Siding keeps water out of your walls. Once a panel cracks or warps, water gets behind it, and you usually do not see the damage until the wall is opened up. We tell you whether a repair will hold or whether it is time for new siding on that wall or the whole house.

Why it helps to have one company look at the whole outside
Most leaks start where two parts of the house meet. Where the chimney goes through the roof. Where the roof edge meets the gutter. Where a wall runs down to a lower roof. When the roofer and the gutter company are two different outfits, each one can tell you it is the other one's problem. We work on all of it, so we cannot say that.
It also works the other way. Not every house needs all four. If your roof has good years left and the real problem is the gutters, that is what the estimate says.
- 1Chimney through the roof
- 2Roof edge at the gutter
- 3Wall meeting a lower roof
What you can check before we start
- Our New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor license is 13VH13268400. You can look it up with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.
- We carry insurance and can send you the certificate before work starts.
- You get the photos from the inspection, so you can see it yourself or show someone else.
- You get a written estimate with the scope, materials and price. If you hire someone else, you owe us nothing.
Yes. If the gutters have to come off for the new roof anyway, that is a good time to decide whether they stay or get replaced. Tell us at the inspection and both go on the estimate, so you can see each price and decide.
Pick "Not sure yet" on the estimate form and tell us what you are seeing. Finding the cause is what the inspection is for. You do not have to diagnose it before you call.
Both. A chimney cleaning (a chimney sweep) takes the soot and creosote out of the flue. While we are up there, we check the crown, the flashing and the liner, since that is where chimney leaks usually start.

Tell us what you are seeing
Send the form or call 732-682-9251. We call you back shortly, come out, and look at it. The inspection and the written estimate cost you nothing, even if you hire someone else.
