Not sure what your roof needs?

Most people call because of something they saw, not because they know what the job is called. Start with what is happening at your house.

Repair or replace

Repair or replace: how we make the call

We would rather sell you a repair that holds than a roof you did not need yet. After the inspection we go through the photos with you and tell you what we would do if it were our house.

Repair
A repair usually makes sense when
  • The damage is in one area.
  • The shingles around it still lie flat and hold their grit.
  • The wood deck underneath feels solid.

Replace
A replacement usually makes sense when
  • Leaks are showing up in more than one place.
  • Shingles are curling, cracked or bald across whole sections.
  • There are already two layers of shingles, or the deck is soft underfoot.

Local conditions

What New Jersey weather does to a roof

A roof near the shore and a roof up in Sussex County wear out for different reasons.

In Ocean and Monmouth, wind off the water lifts shingle edges and salt air eats at exposed nails and metal flashing. Farther north and west, in Sussex, Warren, Morris and Hunterdon, the problem is usually ice. Snow melts off a warm attic, refreezes at the cold edge of the roof, and backs water up under the shingles. Across the whole state, summer heat in a poorly vented attic bakes shingles from underneath.

Nor'easters hit everyone. When one comes through, the calls we get are mostly about lifted shingles, torn flashing and limbs on roofs.

What goes on your roof, and how it gets fastened and vented, depends on where your house is.

We do the work and clean upWe run a magnet over the lawn and driveway for nails before we leave.
