Salt air is hard on gutters, hangers and fasteners. Sea breezes usually reach 5 to 10 miles inland and sometimes 25 to 40, so the salt is not only a problem for the houses on the beach block.
Nor'easters come through most often between October and April. Wind-driven rain comes off a roof faster than a gutter that is too small or pitched wrong can carry it, and the overflow lands against the foundation. We size every run for the roof that drains into it.
Inland, in Howell and Manalapan, the median house dates to 1985. Gutters that age may be the first set, with hangers pulled loose and seams that drip. We check the fascia board behind them before anything new goes up.
So the price comes after we have looked at the roof edge, the fascia and where each downspout ends up.

New gutters only work if the board behind them is solid and the water has a place to go at the bottom. We check the top and the bottom of every run.
